Solomon Ishaku April 2022

The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent” (Exodus 14:14).

There is something overwhelming about the omnipresence of God. The way He protected the Israelites on their exodus from Egypt is much like the way He protects us. Unfortunately, our local tribes have grown hostile. Many of our teachers and students have lost family to the senseless violence, and many have watched loved ones turn away from God because of it. Witchcraft and ritualism are at an all-time high in my and Ishaku’s village. People are growing hopeless. During our last staff in-service, we each read that Exodus passage aloud. One-by-one we declared His promise. The thick silence of despair and anguish was shattered under biblical truth. Pray with us that God will comfort His people in this time of trouble and that their faith will be supernaturally restored.

Thankfully, light will always penetrate darkness. We have some great news! Ishaku is officially joining the team as a Rafiki Long-Term Missionary. After months of prayer, fasting, and consideration, God made it clear to him. He applied and was accepted. I will be in Lake Charles, Louisiana toward the end of May and cannot wait to share more about it. For now, meet Ishaku!

Greetings to you all in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ! I am Ishaku Adumo Azagun. My name means laughter and our home is always filled with it. I am a former Rafiki Secondary School graduate who was given the opportunity to serve with the maintenance team in 2015. That is where I met my Queen. Most of you know, we married in 2020 and continued in a life of service together. I was with Rafiki for about four years before launching my own interior and exterior painting business. The purpose of this business is to teach basic painting skills and provide work for men who are unable to find jobs. On average, Nigerians make less than 3 U.S. Dollars a day, so even those with jobs are suffering. Through this training and God’s grace we have been able to truly change many peoples’ standard of living. I have always been in the work of serving and this time, I am excited to continue this journey with Rafiki as a long-term missionary with my wife and each one of you reading this.

Below is Ishaku and Friday painting a kitchen sign. Friday is one of the young men he has been teaching and mentoring. Ishaku has also been teaching Chele, how to repair the washing machine.

Ishaku has also completed a rigorous IT course in order to be able to better assist with all of the IT information at the Rafiki Village.

Note: Rafiki is now able to accept non-cash gifts such as real estate or estate bequests. Contact Rafiki@RafikiFoundation.org for more information.

Our funding will change once we are officially assigned as a couple. If you are a financial partner, please consider printing a few past newsletters and sharing them with people you think would be interested. If you are not, please pray that God will give you discernment and a will to join us in this ministry.

Please join us in prayer

  • That God would protect us, our family, and our staff from the tribal unrest.
  • My mother will be able to come and meet Ishaku in person this year.
  • God would establish and a smooth and joyful transition for Ishaku
  • We will get the last few necessary teaching positions filled at the school.
  • All 250 Rafiki Day Students to have sponsors and be fully funded soon.
  • For generous giving to the Africa Expansion Campaign. Rafiki is entering a season of exponential growth. We anticipate the thousands that Rafiki is currently ministering to across our 10 countries will turn to tens of thousands. To meet these new opportunities, we are asking God for a 25% increase over Rafiki’s current annual budget which could increase Rafiki’s impact 10-fold.

Sending all the love we can muster in Jesus name!
