Short Term

Express your love for God by becoming a short-term volunteer in Africa and serving those in need. Rafiki short-term mission opportunities allow you to put God’s word to work through short-term service at a Rafiki Training Village. Short-term missions are opportunities for individuals to see what we are doing in the Rafiki Training Villages, to get involved with the work, and to follow the heart of God and the heart of Rafiki. Your short-term service provides both help and hope for orphans and vulnerable children. Though the duration of the mission trip depends upon the needs of the Villages and your availability, a typical trip runs between fourteen days to one month.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does one do on a short-term mission?

Rafiki short-term missions are work oriented. At a Rafiki Training Village, you will have the opportunity to show Christ’s love practically and tangibly through the skills and talents that God has given you. Short-term mission opportunities are available year-round for those who can teach, nurse, cook, build, sew, garden, clean, tutor, or play with a child.

Who may serve on short-term mission trips in Africa?

Rafiki short-term missionaries are adults who are over eighteen years of age and have graduated from high school. Each person must be a Christian, a member of a church, and want the experience serving the Lord doing missionary work in Africa. We welcome people from all walks of life and skill sets: teachers, nurses, food-service personnel, dieticians, construction and maintenance workers, artists, gardeners, caretakers, and individuals, who can cook, sew, clean, tutor, or read a story.

What is the cost of missionary work in Africa?

Rafiki short-term missionaries are self-funded. We believe this service should be an expression of your gratitude to God for endowing you with the time, talents, and personal funds to do such a work. The estimated cost for a short-term mission to Africa is $3500, exclusive of the required training. Cost varies dependent upon factors such as the destination, the length of stay, and the price of the tickets. The estimated cost includes visas, flights to assigned country, medical evacuation insurance, housing, meals, administrative expense for internet access, and transportation in country. The total expense is the actual cost based on the length of stay and the individual expenses incurred.

What preparation is needed?

You must request an application from Rafiki. Upon submission and approval, you will be required to attend an online Rafiki Mission Training. You must pray for God’s heart and mind for service. You must be willing to serve where the Home Office directs and in the capacity needed.

What is Rafiki Missionary Training?

Rafiki Missionary Training is a one-day course held via Zoom. The training gives you information about Rafiki as an organization and allows you to meet the Home Office staff. You will also hear the most recent updates about what God is doing in Africa through Rafiki.

The Rafiki Missionary Training will teach you about the practical aspects of travel to Africa including health issues, immunizations, what to pack, what to wear, and what to leave at home. You will also be given insights on how to respond to the nationals and how to best help the long-term missionaries.

Attending the training does not obligate you to go nor does it obligate Rafiki to send you.

How do you get to Africa?

After determining the place of service, Rafiki will make all travel arrangements and reservations for your review. Rafiki will also assist you with the securing of visas as needed. A Rafiki Village representative will meet you at the airport on arrival and return you to the airport for departure.

Where does one stay?

While serving at a Rafiki Village, you will stay in the guest house on the Village campus.

May my children come with me on my mission trip?
