Maurin
After the death of Maurin's parents, she and her younger brother, Kelvin, went to live with their grandparents. The grandmother found it very difficult to care for the two children and asked Social Welfare for help. Maurin and her brother arrived at the Rafiki Village in Tanzania in 2009. Maurin now loves to learn and is an excellent student. Maurin has high goals for her educational future, and she is capable of achieving those goals. She continues to grow stronger in the Lord as she trusts in Him.

Reuben’s mother died in 2007, and his father is unknown.
Grace
Grace’s teenage mother gave birth to her and then left the hospital the next morning, abandoning Grace.
Blessing
Blessing's mother died in childbirth in May, 2006.

Both Chawanangwa’s parents are deceased.
Judith
Judith's parents were killed in tribal clashes in 2002. She and her brother Josiah came to the Village in 2004.

Both Jummai's parents died within two years of each other, and Jummai and her brother Ezekiel were left to be raised by her grandmother.

James's parents died within months of each other; he was an orphan before he was six months old.

Sandra and her two cousins arrived at the Rafiki Village Rwanda in 2012.

After Judith’s mother passed away in 2006, she was placed in the care of her grandmother, who could not provide for her basic needs.
