Laurine

Laurine was a double orphan by the time she was six years old. At the age of ninety-seven, Laurine’s elderly grandmother struggled to provide for her, and no other family came forward to raise her. Though Laurine went to school, she remembers trying to learn in crowded conditions with more than fifty other students packed into a small classroom.

Laurine arrived at the Rafiki Village Malawi in 2007. She soon radiated with joy and embraced her new life—one of freedom, exploration, and learning. She is most thankful for Rafiki’s nurturing guidance. More than anything, she values Rafiki’s spiritual care. Laurine knows Christ as her personal Lord and Savior, and Rafiki’s daily Bible study helps focus her heart each morning.

Having received quality care at Rafiki, Laurine now wishes to care for others. She enjoys studying human biology and wants to study to be a doctor when she graduates from the Rafiki School. With the quality schooling she has received, Laurine will be equipped to serve the Lord wherever He leads her.

No matter what Laurine’s future holds, she now has lasting hope. As her favorite Bible passage states, she has confidence that God’s “goodness and mercy” will follow her and she “will dwell in the house of the Lord forever” (Psalm 23:6).
