Agnes came to her school interview in a tattered, dirty bathrobe. She was very timid, yet determined to answer the questions. Agnes wanted to come to school at Rafiki. She had spent a short time in a government school, but when her teacher quit, the school closed. Her little hand shook as she took the pencil and tried to write her name. . .she managed to write only the “Ag”.
After just one year of kindergarten at the Rafiki Training Village Tanzania, Agnes not only writes very well, she enjoys reading and is a whiz at math. She received “The Most Improved Student” award last year. Agnes always says “please” and “thank you, teacher.”
Agnes is among the poorest of the poor. She was severely malnourished and below average weight/height for her age. Now she enjoys breakfast and lunch every day at school.
Agnes is growing spiritually, mentally, and physically. She listens to the Bible stories carefully and loves to sing the hymn, “Trust and Obey”.
